Cooled vs uncooled: how FLIR splits the range

FLIR divides its marine cameras clearly. Lower tiers use uncooled thermal cores, which are excellent for close-to-mid-range navigation and security and cover the needs of most recreational and small commercial boats. The elite cooled systems, the M500 and M560, use Mid-Wave Infrared sensors that pierce atmospheric humidity and thick maritime fog over miles of open ocean. Choose uncooled for coastal and inshore work, cooled when extreme range in tough conditions is the priority.
