Wide field plus 640 resolution, which is an unusual combination

Most manufacturers make you choose. A wide field of view normally means a short lens and a small sensor, which caps identification distance. High resolution normally means a long lens and a narrow field, which makes tracking movement hard.

The 35-640 does both. A 640×512 detector behind a 35 mm lens at 2.5× base magnification produces a 12.5° × 10.0° field, or 67 ft × 53 ft at 100 yards. Compare that to the 50-640 at 46 ft × 37 ft and the 35-384 at 39 ft × 24 ft. You are getting flagship sensor resolution with the most usable field in the lineup.

The trade is reached. Detection is 2,480 m against 3,540 m on the 50-640, and base magnification is 2.5× against 3.5×. If your shooting is consistently beyond 400 m in open ground, the 50-640 is the better tool.

Why does AGM recommend this one for hogs?

Hogs move in sounders. You are not identifying one animal; you are reading a group, picking a target, and following it while the rest of the group moves around it. A narrow field means you lose track of where the others are, and you lose the animal you picked when it crosses behind another.

The 12.5° horizontal field solves that. It also helps with fast follow-up shots, because the next animal is more likely to still be in frame after recoil rather than requiring you to reacquire.

AGM also flags high humidity performance for this model specifically. That comes down to the sub-15 mK NETD rating combined with the wider aperture ratio that a 35 mm lens gives on a 640 sensor. In damp conditions where thermal contrast between a hog and wet ground is marginal, sensitivity is what keeps the outline readable.

Display and rangefinding

The 35-640 carries the 2560×2560 OLED panel shared with the 50-640, against 1920×1080 on the 384 models. Over long sessions the denser panel lowers eye fatigue, which shows up as fewer missed identifications at hour six rather than as a visibly different image at hour one.

The in-lens laser rangefinder and onboard ballistic calculator are standard, the same unit as the rest of the V3 LRF range. At the distances this scope is built for, roughly 100 to 400 m, the laser is well within its reliable envelope, so you get a confirmed range and a corrected point of impact on effectively every shot you take.

All six color palettes are present, including red and green monochrome. Picture-in-picture holds the wide view while showing a zoomed inset, which pairs well with the wide-field philosophy: you keep group awareness while identifying your target.

Power, build, and support

Two NE-4400 rechargeable batteries in the box, each rated up to 5.5 hours, giving 11 hours of field time with a ten-second swap. That is shorter than the 7 hours the 384 models manage, which is the cost of the 640 sensor and the denser display.

IP67 sealed. Rated for common hunting calibers, including .223 and .308. Shutterless NUC and Image Boost 2.0. The 64 GB storage with shot-activated recording is well suited for hog work, where the action happens quickly and you won’t have time to reach for a record button.
