AGM NVG-50 AP Dual-Tube Night Vision Goggle (Gen 2+ Autogated Photonis)

8.900,00

The AGM NVG-50 AP adds the feature that turns a great night vision goggle into a go-anywhere one: auto-gating. Its dual Advanced Performance Photonics tubes rapidly pulse to control exposure, so streetlights, headlights, and other bright lights no longer bloom out your view, while still giving you the true depth perception of a dual-tube binocular and a wide 51-degree field of view.

  • Dual-tube binocular with auto-gated advanced performance photonics Gen 2+ tubes (green phosphor)
  • Auto-gating controls exposure under dynamic and bright light to prevent bloom
  • True stereoscopic depth perception with a wide 51-degree field of view
  • Convertible to monocular; built-in IR; up to 20 h on one AA or CR123A; optional battery pack
  • Fits standard AN/PVS-7/14/15/18 and dovetail helmet mounts via pre-installed NVG interface shoe

Availability: 1 in stock (can be backordered)

The AGM NVG-50 AP is the auto-gated, advanced performance build of AGM’s dual-tube night vision goggle. It keeps everything that makes the NVG-50 a capable binocular: two image intensifier tubes for real depth perception, a wide 51-degree field of view, flexible power, and broad mount compatibility and adds auto-gating, the single most important feature for using night vision around any artificial light. The result is a goggle that stays usable as you move from dark fields into lit yards, roads, or buildings.

Design and build

The AP has the same optical and mechanical features as the NVG-50 platform: dual-channel multi-coated optics in a compact composite housing, 1x magnification, a 51-degree field of view, and focus from about 0.25 m to infinity. A built-in IR illuminator covers close work, and you can switch off one tube to run as a monocular and save power.

Power is a single AA or CR123A for up to 20 hours, with an optional battery pack for extended use. The pre-installed NVG interface shoe fits standard dovetail headset and helmet mounts and is compatible with AN/PVS-7D, PVS-14, PVS-7A/C, PVS-15, and PVS-18 mounts plus mini-rail interfaces.

Auto-gating and Advanced Performance Photonics tubes

Auto-gating is what defines this model. The tube’s power supply switches the photocathode on and off at high frequency, effectively controlling exposure in real time so a sudden bright source produces a controlled point of light rather than a screen-filling bloom. That protects the image (and your night adaptation) around streetlights, vehicle headlights, and other dynamic light and is why auto-gated devices are the standard for any use near built-up areas.

The AP designation marks Advanced Performance autogated photonic tubes, a higher-grade selection than the standard NW1, typically in the FOM 1600-2000 band. Because each eye has its own high-grade tube, the depth-perceiving binocular image stays clean and matched. This AP build uses green phosphor; the APW version below is the white-phosphor equivalent.

Real-world applications

Mixed and peri-urban environments: anywhere artificial light may enter the scene, like farmyards near roads, estate boundaries, or security work around lit buildings. Auto-gating keeps the image usable.

Mounted movement and driving: dual-tube depth plus gating make moving fast and driving on private land safer when lighting is unpredictable.

Professional and SAR use: the wide field of view, depth perception, and dynamic light handling suit demanding search, security, and rescue tasks.

How it compares

Against the non-gated NVG-50 NW1, the AP adds auto-gating and a higher Advanced Performance FOM band at a higher price, essential if you encounter artificial light and optional if you only work in true darkness. Against the APW, the AP uses green phosphor, whereas the APW uses white; choose by color preference. Against AGM’s 3A (Gen 3+ auto-gated) NVG-50 builds, the AP remains a Gen 2+ device at a lower price point.

FAQ

  • What does auto-gating do? It switches the tube’s photocathode on and off thousands of times a second to control exposure, so bright or changing light produces a controlled point rather than a screen-filling bloom. It is essential for using night vision near artificial light.
  • How is the AP different from the NW1? The AP adds auto-gating and uses higher-grade Advanced Performance Photonis tubes (typically FOM 1600-2000); the NW1 is non-gated. Both are dual-tube binoculars with a 51-degree FOV.
  • AP or APW – what is the difference? Phosphor color: the AP is green, and the APW is white. Both are auto-gated Advanced Performance dual-tube goggles.
  • Can it run as a monocular? Yes. Switching off one tube runs it as a monocular to conserve battery on long sessions.
